Freshman Year Highlights

Freshman Year Reflection
OVERALL:
Freshman year has been a year of growth and exploration. Freshman year has truly deepend my ability and desire to think critically about complex issues. I have also strengthened my confidence to take on challenges, to speak in public, and to succeed academically. Freshman year has also given me a new sense of urgency and gratitude towards opportunities that come my way. If I had a #1 tip for incoming freshmen that would be it: to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way, and urgently seek after those opportunities that you want.
MEMBERSHIP CHAIR OF IGNITE:
My position as Membership Chair of IGNITE has built my marketing and communication skills. Going into the fall semester, I plan on working with our team to expand IGNITE’s outreach and prominence on campus. We hope to partner with similar organizations to serve our women in our community. I also hope to work with the other officers to positively build our public image on campus and on social media. My POLS 207 and POLS 200 class, along with the Women’s Conference have also expanded my understanding of women’s underrepresentation: why it occurs, potential solutions, progress that has been made, and the progress women have yet to make. I hope to take these experiences and spread awareness for women’s issues through my work in IGNITE, as well as in my literary review and during conversation.

DATA ANALYSIS SKILLS & SCONA Conference:
Freshman Year has built my data analysis skills. I hope to apply this during my literary analysis and in future projects or papers. The SCONA Conference built my skills to research and write a policy proposal, along with my ability to work successfully with a diverse group of students. I plan on applying these skills in future projects and in my future career, when working with different people and different perspectives.

AGGIES AGAINST COVID-19:
The Aggies Against COVID-19 Challenge built my understanding towards the importance of Entrepreneurship to our society and economy, along with what it takes to be an Entrepreneur. I also strengthened my ability to communicate efficiently online, since we were not able to meet in person. This project also strengthened my ability to work successfully within a diverse group of strengths and ideas. These are skills I would like to apply if I take on another Entrepreneurship challenge, and in my future when I work within a group.

LOOKING FOWARD:
Going into my second year of college, I want to make sure I take advantage of networking opportunities with my professors and Aggie alumni. I plan on doing so by reaching out to Aggie alumni in career fields I would be interested in, attending networking events, and frequently going to office hours. I believe all of my experiences during my freshman year have started to build my skill set, and I am eager to experience what my second year of college holds. I am excited to apply and build upon the skills I have acquired during my freshman year.
