Sophomore Year Highlights

Sophomore Year: Work

Sophomore Year Reflection

OVERALL:

Sophomore year was my first year as a student a MAYS Business school. Each year I complete in college, I feel like I grew exponentially; both as a person and academically. Initially, I entered MAYS as a general Business Management student and soon switched over to MIS after my ISTM 210 class. In ISTM 210, I realized that a computer isn't a magical box that works mysteriously. It has a hard disk, RAM, CPU, and the motherboard (among other components) that all work together. In addition, I learned about the cloud, and how important cybersecurity is and will continue to be going forward.  With that, I continue to look for opportunities that relate to my major, and can expand upon my current understanding of technology and management.

My first semester at MAYS was completely online, and my spring semester was online with the exception of my marketing class. Although online classes had its benefits, I am ready to return to class in person. I believe in person class allows for a more in-depth learning experience, and more genuine connections with fellow students. Also, I would argue that in person classes creates more discipline. Being online, it was easy to hop out of bed and open my laptop, however, it was also easy to get distracted.

One of my main goals going into junior year is to expand my network.  I believe it is critical that I surround myself with people that can give me advise, and led me in the correct direction. I believe this is one of the biggest things holding me back because I have ideas and inventions I want to pursue, but am unsure where to start or who to turn to for guidance. In addition, I have other career interests, like strategy consulting or project management but do not know anyone in the field that I could reach out to. In order to expand my network, I plan on attending more career fairs, reaching out to aggie alumni, and participating in 3 Day Aggie Start-up, along with Aggie Pitch.
