MSC Spencer Leadership Conference

Attended a two day, in person Leadership Conference, hosted through MSC Spencer. Throughout those two days, I got to hear from a variety of individuals on how they are a leader in their workplace, and what that looks like. This leadership conference inspired me to take greater leaps towards more leadership roles in my own workplace and within organizations at Texas A&M.
January 2021 - April 2021
Student Assistant, Epidemiology & Biostatistics Department
As a Student Assistant in the Epidemiology & Biostatistics Department, I helped facilitate COVID-19 testing across campus.
January 2021 - May 2021
MKTG 321 Consulting Project

Got the opportunity to create an in-depth SWOT analysis and suggest recommendations for the company "Oh.My.Word." Oh.My.Word is a start-up with the goal of empowering parents to have honest conversations about sex with their kids, through Oh.My.Word's online course. Overall, our group recommended that Oh.My.Word better organize their website, improve their visual appeal on social media and reach out to local doctors and OBGYNs to grow brand awareness.
January 2021 - May 2021
ISTM 281 Seminar
As an MIS major, I am required to take ISTM 281, a seminar class. The second half of the semester, we were allowed to pursue our own interests through Linkdln learning. With that, I was able to learn a lot about social media and website analytics, which I believe is very valuable given current trends in technology.
Semester 2 Reflection
MSC Spencer Leadership Conference
The MSC Spencer Leadership Conference occurred the first week of March, and for me, it was truly eye opening. Throughout the two days at conference, I heard from a variety of speakers in multiple industries about how they lead in the areas. My favorite speaker was Megan McCoy Jones, the president of McCoy's Building Supply. She spoke about how sometimes it is difficult being a female leader in a male dominated industry. She also added how stereotypes of her being a small, young, blond woman results in some disrespect against her. Yet with that, she leads the company with values and compassion. In addition, the conference inspired me to one day and return as a speaker myself.
Business Programming and Design (ISTM 250) Class
ISTM 250, computer coding through c#, was the hardest class I took in college thus far. Towards the end of the semester, I began to question if I should Q-drop. I was not willing to accept a grade I was not satisfied with, anything below a B, and believed the B was nearly unachievable. However, my mom and others around me encouraged me not to give up. It wasn't over until it was over. The last few weeks of the semester was extremely stressful, however, they were well worth it because I was able to finish the class with a B. With that, I learned
that I am more capable than I thought. I was thankful those around me did not let me submit to defeat but encouraged me to keep going with all and I had.
